Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid homage to ex-President of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and described him as a “hero fir all Indians”. Modi also said that he will be honoured to have a participation amid the celebrations of birth centenary of Rahman.
In a tweet, PM Modi said, “My heartfelt homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a champion of human rights and freedom, on his birth anniversary. He is a hero for all Indians too. It will be my honour to visit Bangladesh later this month for the historic Mujib Borsho celebrations.”
Alongside, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning for a two-day visit to Bangladesh scheduled for March 26 to be a part of the three epochal events. The visit to Bangladesh will be Modi’s first foreign visit post the Covid-19 pandemic.
The visit to Bangladesh is after PM Modi received an invite from Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, revealed the Ministry of External Affairs.
The MEA said, “This visit is in connection with the commemoration of three epochal events – Mujib Borsho, the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Bangladesh; and 50 years of Bangladesh’s war of liberation.”
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) revealed that the visit to Bangladesh is a reflection of the priority that India has towards Bangladesh.
A statement from the PMO read, “This visit is in connection with the commemoration of three epochal events – Mujib Borsho, the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Bangladesh; and 50 years of Bangladesh’s war of liberation.”
