The villagers of Dakshina Kannada in Karnataka took it upon themselves to construct a bridge, which they have been demanding from the government from a lot of years now.
The residents of the village, Mogra, located at about 100 kilometres from Mangaluru, have successfully finished building the pedestrian steel bridge via a crowdfunded pool.
The villages experienced a lot of difficulty to reach the main city, where they can access primary health centres, schools, and religious centres, because of the rivulet that passes via the closest route.
A local said, “We have been asking the government for a bridge for so many years. Despite repeated requests, we did not get any sanction from the government. Finally, we decided to build it on our own.”
The villagers crowdfunded the money for the project and built it with their own physical efforts. With the participation of the villagers, the construction was completed in 3 days.
