A penalty of Rs 1 lakh for hotels, and establishments infringing the Covid-19 rules

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagere Palike (BBMP) has implemented a fine of Rs. 1 lakh for infringement of Covid-19 protocols of social distancing and utilization of masks by hotels, theaters, marriage halls, and event organizers and any other commercial establishments.

BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad iterated on the news order issued which clearly directs the commercial establishments to ensure that Covid-19 protocols are being adhered by in their premises.

The Commissioner further added the owners will be responsible for the violation and will be charged under six categories. The owners of three-star restaurants would be fined Rs 1 lakh, followed by which Rs 50,000 for air-conditioned restaurants, departmental stores, theatres, also on organizers of meetings, rallies and Rs 25,000 for non AC restaurants and shops.

For any public place organizers, a fine of Rs 10,000 and for street vendors and smaller hotels, a find of Rs 5,000.

Prasad said, “BBMP marshals cannot be present everywhere, the onus of enforcing Covid protocols falls on the owners, who need to be accountable.”

He further emphasized on the upcoming wedding season and month of Karthika. He said, “We have observed that many people violate Covid protocols once they enter the temples. As a result, these places act as super-spreaders. We do not want another surge in cases.”

He further added, “I have approved 100 marshals for this purpose. We will also deploy marshals for such events where permission has been sought, like weddings or other public gatherings. Inspections will be intensified at malls and temples, and fines will be imposed on those violating Covid rules.”

The Commissioner further iterated only those owners will be charge who violate the laws. “If they strictly follow Covid protocols by the government, then there is no need to worry at all,” he said
