Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa took part in the celebrations of the 65th Karnataka Rajyotsav held at a desolated Sree Kanteerava stadium located in Bengaluru on Sunday. At the venue, various ministers, legislators and officials were present participating in the Rajyotsav celebrations.

Everybody present at the celebrations, were wearing a mask, and following the guidelines of social distancing as instructed to curb the spread of Covid-19 infection. The inauguration of the celebrations was done by the Department of Education, tweeted the chief minister.

In a series of tweets, Yediyurappa has written about the Rajyotsav celebrations and wished the people of the state on the formation day.

He tweeted in Kannada, “Happy 65th Kannada Rajyotsavam to all the people of the country. Let us unite with the protection of Kannada language and culture and for the creation of a prosperous, healthy, coexistent, developing Karnataka. Karnataka to breathe!”

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his wishes and greetings to the people of Karnataka and lauded their skills, growth and progress. Modi wrote on Twitter, “Karnataka Rajyotsava greetings to my sisters and brothers of Karnataka. Powered by the strength of the skills and the people of the state, Karnataka is scaling new heights of progress. I pray for the happiness and good health of the people of Karnataka.”

Among others who extended their greetings to the people from Karnataka ares President Ram Math Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Nadu and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar.

Celebrated by people from all castes and religions in the state, the festival denotes the unity of the state. It was on this day, in the year 1956, that all the Kannada speaking regions located in South India were merged together to form one state which was then known as ‘Mysore’. But, on November 1, 1973, the name ‘Mysore’ was changed to ‘Karnataka’ for acceptance by all the people in the state.(With inputs from ANI agency)
