Centre directs SOPs for organizing Kumbh Mela, imposes Covid-19 negative report mandatory

With the current scenario of Covid-19 pandemic impacting the world, the devotees who are keen to participate in the currently happening Haridwar ‘Maha Kumbh Mela’ are directed to show their RT-PCR negative report taken within 72 hours at their time of arrival as a mandatory protocol.

Meanwhile, the Government of India has formulated and published the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the ‘Kumbh Mela’. The Centre has duly emphasized on the time period of the ‘Maha Kumbh Mela’ which is being organized in Hardiwar and has commenced from January 15.

As per the issued SOPs, the authorities associated to the Kumbh Mela have been given the instructions to express their discontent and discourage the participation of children less than 10 years of age, people above the age of 65 years, pregnant women and people with any co-morbidities or chronic ailments to take a step back from the Mela celebrations. The state government will also address the issue with other state governments regarding the same.

The central government urges the people involved in the Mela celebrations to maintain social distancing with a 6 feet distance as a measure to combat Covid-19. Also, the Centre has given clear instructions of imposing heavy fines on people who are not following the Covid-19 protocols of social distancing and not wearing a mask.

At the parking site, the officials managing the charge will be providing with a face mask to the visitors at the standard prices set by the government guidelines. Further, the officials are instructed to verify if all the devotees entering the premises have the Aarogya Setu application installed in their phones or not.

The ‘Maha Kumbh Mela’ is a festival based on the traditions in a cycle of 12 years held at the four-river bank pilgrimage sites throughout India and will be concluding on April 27.
