Centre’s proposal ‘best’ for farmers: Narendra Singh Tomar

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar described the Centre’s proposal to be the best one of suspending the new farm laws passed by the Centre earlier and iterated that the protesting farmers might reconsider over it and further convey their opinion.

The Centre and the 41 farmer unions have held 11 rounds of meetings and discussions and all of them have so far been inconclusive. Amid the session of the 10th round of talks, the government proposed the enforcement of the laws after a period of 1 – 1.5 years, which was blatantly rejected by the farmer unions’ leaders.

During the 11th round of talks, the Centre urged the leaders to reconsider the proposals and then convey their final decision. Tomar revealed to PTI, “The government has given the best offer to farmers’ unions. I am hopeful that they will convey their decision to us after discussing it among themselves. Once they communicate, we will take it forward.”

Post the 11th round of talks, the minister pointed about no further discussions to be held and the farmer unions’ leaders must reveal their final decision. The farmers would open up about their decision as hinted only after their proposed ‘Gantantra Parade’ of tractor rally scheduled for January 26.

Farmers have been protesting from different parts of the country along the borders of New Delhi for 61 days consecutively demanding to repeal the three controversial farm laws passed by the Centre.
