Indian Navy Ships sent to Bangladesh over 50th anniversary of 1971 Liberation War

Indian Naval Ships have been scheduled for a visit to Bangladesh’ s historic port town of Mongla from March 8 to March 10 according to the ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ celebration for commemorating 50 years of victory of the 1971 Liberation War.

As per an official release, Indian Naval Ships Sumedha, an indigenously made Offshore Patrol vessel along with Kulish, inherent missile corvette planned for a port call at Mongla from March 8 to March 10 with the intent of commemorating the Swarnim Vijay Varsh and reemphasized on historic Indo-Bangladesh friendship.

The official statement read, “This is the first time that any Indian Naval Ship is visiting the port of Mongla in Bangladesh and the visit is aimed at paying homage to the Bangladeshi and Indian combatants and citizens who laid down their lives during the Liberation War of 1971, and reiterate India’s firm resolve and commitment to maintain peace, stability and good order in the region, in line with SAGAR – Security and Growth for all in the Region, as articulated by the Prime Minister of India.”

Adhering to the Covid-19 protocols, the crew of the ship will engage in professional and cultural exchanges along with friendly sports fixtures with counterparts in Bangladesh Navy, thereby focusing on enhancing the synergy between the two navies, the statement added.

On Thursday, S Jaishankar started for his official visit to Dhaka, which will set up the ground ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh to have a meeting to discuss bilateral ties.
