Karnataka Bandh: Regular life mostly unaffected, Pro-Kannada activist groups arrested in Bengaluru

Pro-Kannada associations have triggered a bandh all over the state of Karnataka to protest against the state government’s decision for formation of Maratha Development Corporation. The bandh partially affected the normal life and received a very terpid response, particularly in Davanagere.

At the Jayadeva circle, the activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike protested and further set on fire an effigy of chief minister BS Yediyurappa. The protesters also performed Urulu Seve for expressing their irritation against the government.

Throughout the day, auto rickshaws, cabs, public transport buses and metro services were available from afternoon, but hotels and provision stores were open throughout. Protests have been recorded in several districts which includes Chamarajanagara, Gadag, Koppa, Hassan, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Chitradurga, Davanegere, Bagalkote, Chikkamagaluru, Mandya.

Activists from KRV group, which is headed by President Narayana Gowda, marched along Gandhingar in Bengaluru and protested outside the chief minister’s office, Krishna. Alongside, some protesters from the Pro-Kannada organization, were also marching near the Mekhri Circle.

The activists from the different Kannada organizations who marched around protesting near the city’s Town Hall and were detained by the police.

The police force had tightened the security across several parts of the city. And, the protests have been running through the state, as ‘Hitler’.
