Karnataka government has directed an order to broach more clarity on the concept of green crackers after the State High Court pulled the government for not putting forth any definition or clarity regarding the green crackers.
The issued order revealed that the green crackers are prepared without incorporating any harmful chemicals and can be easily identified with the clear green logo of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Environmental and Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI), along with Quick Response (QR) codes.
Quoting the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Anjum Parvez from Revenue department said the green crackers significantly reduce air pollution as they do not have any harmful chemicals. She said, “These crackers are less harmful in comparison to conventional firecrackers.”
The current formulation generated by CSIR-NEERI is utilized for manufacturing the crackers as sparkles, flowerpots.
The new and the enhanced formulation assured reduction in the levels of particulate matter, sulphur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide, which will account to overall 30 per cent reduction in the emissions.
On Thursday, the state government was pulled up by the High Court pertaining to the matter of green crackers.
