As the BBMP elections are nearing a date, the state cabinet had a consultation aboutthe chances to have an increase in the number of wards to 225 from the earlier countof 198. The new wards will extend to areas which are outside BBMP limits. They have also given a proposal for increase in the zones from eight to 15 in the areas of BBMP limits. A final decision is awaited by the Joint Scheduled meeting as per the
law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J C Madhuswamy.

Regarding the issue of appointing administrator, the government will forward the details to High Court for conducting the civic body elections post delimitation of wards. The court received various petitions regarding reservation of 192 wards and proceed with elections.

“There are demands to delimit wards based on population density and area. We have to decided to maintain a population of 40 to 42,000 in each of the wards during delimitation,” Madhuswamy mentioned.
