Myanmar procures the first batch of Covishield vaccines from India

S Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India revealed the Serum Institute of India’s Covishield vaccines has reached Myanmar.

In a tweet, Jaishankar tweeted, “Acting East. Acting fast. Indian vaccines have arrived in Myanmar to contribute to our neighbor’s inoculation efforts.”

Last week, Covid-19 vaccination drive commenced in India with two vaccines Covishield, manufactured by SII and developed by Oxford University -AstraZeneca and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin in the first phase.

On January 19, the Ministry of External Affairs had declared vaccine roll-out for neighboring countries with ‘Neighborhood First’ Policy. Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Maldives and Seychelles are the countries India will be supplying vaccine doses as a part of the policy.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic induced lockdown, India also had supplied hydroxychloroquine, Remdesvir, paracetamol tablets along with other items of medical aid such as diagnostic kits, ventilators, masks, gloves, and other medical equipment for the neighboring countries as medical assistance.
