Singapore has delivered a batch of medical oxygen cylinders as a move to support the severe crisis faced by India amid the ongoing second wave of Covid-19, said the country’s foreign ministry on Wednesday. The second minister for foreign affairs Dr Maliki Osman gave green signal to two of the Singapore Air Force’s C-130 aircraft, which will be reaching India with a count of 256 oxygen cylinders, according to Singapore’s diplomatic missions in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.

As per the official statement, the Indian Air Force allotted its C-17 aircraft for getting three oxygen containers starting from Singapore to the Panagarh Air Base.

Singapore’s supply comes amid the critical shortage of oxygen supply particularly in the national capital, and the patients are struggling with beds and essential drugs. On Wednesday, India observed a record single day spike with 3,60,960 Covid-19 cases, which pushed the total tally over 1,79,97,267 and the total fatalities have surpassed the two lakh mark with 3,293 fatalities.

In two C-130 aircrafts from Singapore, the oxygen supplies will be handed over to India’s High Commissioner P Kumaran by Dr Maliki Osman at the Paya Lebar Air Base on Wednesday morning.

According to news agency PTI citing Dr Maliki, “We have all witnessed in the past year how this pandemic is a transboundary threat.” Singapore and India share a very strong relationship which became more solid amid the Covid-19 pandemic by keeping the pandemic via “keeping supply chains open and essential goods flowing”.
