The Central government has withdrawn the plea on Wednesday which seeks an admonition against the planned tractor rally scheduled for Republic Day on January 26 to be conducted by the farmers who have been protesting along the borders of Delhi demanding repealing of the farm laws post the declaration given by the Supreme Court stating “it is a police matter”.

A benchmark comprising of Chief Justice S A Bobde and Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramaniam stated the police have the authority to tackle the issues regarding the tractor rally in Delhi planned for Republic Day.

In the hearing for resolving the plea via video conferencing, the bench stated, “We have told you that we will not issue any direction. It is a police matter. We will allow you to withdraw. You are the authority and you have to deal with it. You have the powers to pass orders, you do it. It is not for the court to pass orders.”

After the declaration passed by the Supreme Court, the Centre took the call of withdrawing the plea filed via Delhi police to have a ban on the proposed tractor rally or trolley march organized by the farmers which could potentially be a disturbance for the celebrations and parade of the Republic Day.
