Thousands taken into police custody based on ‘virus related crimes’ in China

Around 5,800 people are suspiciously arrested for death of healthcare workers, sales of defective equipment and concealing their travel history in China from January. These cases are significantly linked with the safety issue pertaining to Coronavirus – epidemic related crimes. One case consisted of a shopper harassing another customer to follow the safety precautions and wear a mask. Few other such instances of crime comprises of attacking the medical professionals by hitting them with a car, stabbing the health inspector on-duty.

However, it is not clear, about the number of people still in detention or been sentenced.
