The South Western Railway revealed on Tuesday that two more Oxygen Express trains with 238.5 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) have arrived in the city of Bengaluru.

The two trains became the eleventh and twelfth train supplying LMO to the state of Karnataka and overall received 1420.64 tonnes of LMO via Rail.

According to a release from the South Western Railway, the 11th Oxygen Express was bringing 124.19 tonnes of LMO within six cryogenic tanks which had left from Rourkela, Odisha at 9.30 pm on May 23 and arrived in ICD Whitefield at 06:10 am today.

The 12th Oxygen Express arrived in the city after two hours at 09:49 am, carrying 114.31 tonnes of LMO within six cryogenic containers and commenced the journey from Kanalus at Jamnagar in Gujarat at 04:30 am on May 24.

The release added that though the challenges due to Cyclone Yaas amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indian Railways assured timely loading and transport of LMO.

The Railways had created a Signal Free “ Green Corridor” to facilitate rapid transport of both the Oxygen Expresses, so the trains need not halt to create a passageway for other trains alongside.

Till now, the Indian Railways have operated over 247 Oxygen expresses and supplied more than 16,000 tonnes of LMO throughout the country to provide relief amid the worsening condition of Covid-19.
