With several states facing acute shortage of medical oxygen supply, with surge in the Covid-19 cases throughout the country, an approval was given by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) over allocation of funds from PM Cares for installation of 551 dedicated Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) medical oxygen generation plants within the public health facilities throughout the country.
PMO also released an order that the plants should be operational at the earliest as it will enhance the oxygen supply and availability to meet the requirements at the district level.
As per the statement from Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the plants will be set up in identified government hospitals and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will procure it.
The statement released stated, “The basic aim behind establishing PSA oxygen generation plants at government hospitals in the district headquarters is to further strengthen the public health system and ensure that each of these hospitals has a captive oxygen generation facility. Such an in-house captive oxygen generation facility would address the day to day medical oxygen needs of these hospitals and the district.”
Additionally, the liquid medical oxygen (LMO) would cater to as a top captive oxygen generation. The statement said, “Such a system will go a long way in ensuring that government hospitals in the districts do not face sudden disruption of oxygen supplies and have access to adequate uninterrupted oxygen supply to manage the Covid-19 patients and other patients needing such support.”

India is experiencing increased pressure adhering to the healthcare infrastructure pertaining to the rising needs of the country with surge in Covid-19 cases.
