Former student of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Umar Khalid has been arrested in the late hours of Sunday under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for his alleged involvement in the north-east Delhi violence.
Post eleven hours of interrogation, a special cell of the Delhi Police arrested him. Umar Khalid will be produced before the court on Monday. Delhi Police Crime Branch had priorly questioned him for some hours on September 2.
The Delhi Police had mentioned on Sunday in an official statement that the officials are probing the role of all the persons who have alleged participation in the violence and held an involvement in the larger conspiracy for organizing riots in north-east Delhi.
This is with regard to the violence erupted on February 24 in north-east Delhi due to clashes between the crowd supporting the Citizen Amendment Bill (CAB) and those against the legislation. The riots had resulted in the death of more than 50 people and 108 police personnel had injuries, two of them succumbed to death.
A total count of 751 FIRs have been filed regarding the riots and 1575 individuals have been arrested.
