Balasubramaniam Shyam, currently working as the Consul General of India, Osaka-Kobe Japan has been selected as India’s next Ambassador to the Republic of Iceland. According to a release from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), B Shyam will take over with the new assignment at the earliest. B Shyam had joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in the year 2000.
Shyam’s career started with the first posting in Cairo, Egypt as Third Secretary/Language Trainee, studying Arabic at the American University in Cairo. Following which, he worked as Second Secretary dealing with Media, and then as Director (I/C), Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture in Cairo.
Shyam was also posted to Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he was the First Secretary (Political) with a tenure of three years, after which he was appointed as Commercial Counsellor from 2010-2013 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
He then returned to Delhi in 2013, however was still Director (Pakistan) till 2015. Shyam also worked for a term of three years from 2015-18 in the Indian Embassy in Yangoon, Myanmar with the post of Deputy Chief of Mission.
On August 1, 2018, B Shyam was appointed as the Consul General of India, Osaka-Kobe, Japan.
