BBMP to urge private hospitals for reserving 40 % beds for COVID-19 patients

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagere Palike (BBMP) has urged the private hospitals of Bengaluru to reserve nearly 40 per cent beds for COVID-19 patients. The notice was issued as the state of Karnataka recorded 4,373 recent cases of COVID-19 and Bengaluru Urban recorded 3,002 cases particularly. Presently, the private hospitals had set up 10 per cent of the beds for COVID-19 patients.

 Dr HM Prasanna, the President, Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes’ Association (PHANA) revealed to the Times of India about the private hospitals instructed to set aside 40 per cent of the beds for the patients referred by the civic body adhering to the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust and a detailed order will be directed.

The fresh cases of COVID-19 recorded on Saturday and 19 deaths raised the overall caseload to 10.10 lakh and the death count to 12,610, according to the data released by the health department. There were also 1,959 recoveries reported on a positive note by the health department.

The most affected region is Bengaluru with 3,002 cases raising the total count to 4,44,244 with 26,544 active cases and 4,13,058 patient recoveries and 1,052 were during the day. The bulletin said, “Out of 36,614 active cases, 36,287 patients are stable and in isolation at designated hospitals, while 327 are in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). Bengaluru Urban and Mysuru each accounted for six deaths, Hassan (3), Mandya (2), and one each from Kalaburagi and Tumakuru.”

The bulletin further added, “Positivity rate for the day rose to 3.53 per cent while the case fatality rate was 0.43 percent across the state on Friday.”

Alongside, a count of 4,40,532 people over the age of 45 which constitutes senior citizens, comorbidities, healthcare and frontline workers amid the day across the states. The bulletin said, “Cumulatively, 41,73,573 people have been vaccinated across the state since the drive was launched on January 16 and stepped up on April 3 when senior citizens above 60 years and those with comorbid in the 45-59 years of age were also given the jab.”
