BKU leader Rakesh Tikait warns of tractor agitation in Gujarat post Delhi

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait on Monday had given a warning to initiate a farmers tractor agitation in Gujarat, post New Delhi, and iterated about the time has come to gather in the state capital Gandhinagar and also will be breaking the barricades as required.

While addressing the issue to the reporters near Sabarmati Ashram, Tikait stated that the farmers in Gujarat were unhappy and are suffering.

Farmers in large numbers from different parts of the country have been protesting along the borders of New Delhi since November last year demanding to revoke the three controversial farm laws passed by the Centre and also demanding for fixing a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce.

The protesting farmers had initiated a tractor rally in Delhi on January 26. Tikait said, “Farmers will conduct an agitation in Gujarat using their tractors. Time has come to gherao Gandhinagar and block roads. If needed, we will have to break barricades too.”

Rakesh Tikait is on a two-day tour to Gujarat to continue the campaign against the three farm laws. On the second day of his visit, Tikait along with former Chief Minister of Gujarat Shankersinh Vaghela paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at the Sabarmati Ashram.

Tikait said, “Farmers are suffering because there is no agitation here. There is no backing from courts also. Farmers are compelled to say they are happy and making profit. Please give us that technology which is helping Gujarat’s farmers to reap benefits.”

He said that farmers of Banaskantha have to sell the potatoes at Rs 3 per kilogramme. WHen asked about the future plans of the union for Gujarat farmers, Tikait said, “Is that enough to make farmers happy? We have come here to remove fear from the minds of farmers. We will agitate in a peaceful manner.”

Afterwards, Tikait and Vaghela went to Karamsad town in Anand district and paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in his native place. Tikait then went to Bardoli, near Surat, where he would be addressing the farmers over several issues in the evening.
