CBSE cancels Class XII examination, decision taken for the students, says PM Modi

The Centre on Tuesday took the final decision to cancel the Class XII examinations of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) deliberating on the worsening situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country amid the second wave. The call to cancel the board exams was taken at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a release,  the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said, “Class 12 results will be made as per a well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner,” also quoted PM Modi’s words about the decision taken “in the interest of students”.

PM Modi further said Health and safety are of utmost importance and there will be no compromise when it comes to the students.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who had appealed to the Centre to cancel the Class XII CBSE board examinations was one of the first leaders to acknowledge it. Kejriwal wrote on Twitter, “I’m glad class 12th exams have been cancelled. All of us were very worried about the health of our children. A big relief.”

Earlier on April 14, CBSE had taken the call of canceling class X examinations and delay of Class XII examination based on the Covid-19 pandemic situation. Following this, the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) released a similar notification on April 16 and 19.
