Centre: 15 lakh beneficiaries inoculated against Covid-19 on March 5, highest in a day

For the second phase of the Covid-19 vaccination drive in India, around 15 lakh people have been vaccinated on March 5, which is the highest, as of now, which raises the total count of vaccine doses administered in the country to more than 1.94 crores, revealed the official sources on Saturday.

On January 16, India commenced the first phase of the vaccination drive against Covid-19 targeting the healthcare workers and on February 2, the frontline workers started getting inoculated.

The second dose administering started on February 13 for those who have completed 28 days post the receipt of the first dose. On March 1, the second phase of the vaccination drive began which targeted people above 60 years of age and above 45 years with existing co-morbidities.

Till March 5, which is Day 49 of the vaccination drive, 14,92,201 Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered. From which, 11,99,848 beneficiaries have been inoculated through 18,333 sessions pertaining to the first dose (HCWs and FLWs), and 2,92,353 HCWs and FLWs were administered the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine, revealed the Health Ministry.

According to the preliminary reports, which were compiled till Saturday 7 AM, over 1.94 crore vaccine doses have been administered via 3,57,478 sessions. Alongside, the ministry revealed that Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka have been cumulatively accountable for 82 per cent of the total cases reported within 24 hours.

The statement said that an overall 18,327 fresh cases were recorded in last 24 hours. It further noted 108 deaths were reported in a day.
