Despite the state’s constant battle with Covid-19, Mysuru has commenced its 10-days long Dasara celebrations with religious fervour. Dr C N Manjunath, Director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bengaluru and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa kick-started the celebrations of Nada Habba by showering flowers on the idol of goddess Chamundeshwari, atop Chamundi Hill.
At the inauguration of the festivities celebrations, Dr Manjunath, was honored for recognizing the services given by the doctors as front-line COVID-19 warriors. Six Coronavirus warriors were also venerated at the inaugural.
Keeping the pandemic and global health emergency in consideration, the government had taken the decision to key the celebrations of the 410th Dasara low-key, keeping up with the traditions.
Dasara celebrations reflect the best of the cultural heritage of Karnataka, blazing with the folk art forms and attracting large tourists and crowds, Covid-19 has marked a pause button on it. But, the Mysuru administrative authorities, have assured live telecasts for the people, who can enjoy the celebrations from home, following the restrictions.
The government is strictly focusing on enforcing the rules and Standard Operating Procedures, following which the ‘Jumbo Savari’, the magnificent procession of elephants holding the Goddess Chamundeshwari in golden Howdah on Vijayadashmi is canceled and would be only followed in the palace premises.
Mysuru, at the eve of Dasara, commencing today, will be illuminated with thousands of glowing bulbs in the evenings, reflecting the joy of celebrations and traditions.
