Delhi Police Mahasangh and family of the police personnel who were attacked in the violence invoked by the farmers’ tractor rally on Republic Day, had initiated a protest at Shaheedi Park on Saturday as a protest against the violent agitation of the farmers.
During the protest, retired aling with the currently working Delhi Police were also present. Head Constable Ashok Kumar stated, “I was deployed at the gate of the Red Fort. We were bringing out the crowd that had entered and hoisted the flag, after which we were suddenly attacked. They had sticks and swords with them. I received injuries on my head and legs.”
Head Constable Sunita, in-charge at PS Model Town, had also been injured amd the violence. Sunita revealed to ANI, “I was deployed at Mukarba Chowk. Deputy Commissioner of Police and Assistant Commissioner of Police were also there. They spoke to protesters asking them to go to approved route. But they turned aggressive, broke barricades, attacked us and vandalised vehicles.”
Though the farmer unions have taken the call to keep away from the violence and termed it as a conspiracy, the Delhi Police has accused them for the charge. The police had issued notices to 12 farmer leaders for being a part of the investigation to get to the details of the tractor rally violenc invoked by the farmers. Some of the leaders are Buta Singh Burjgill, Rakesh Tikait, Darshan Pal Singh, Shamsher Pandher and Satnam Pannu.
On January 26, amid the tractor march organized by farmers to demand revoking of the controversial farm laws, protestors have breached the agreement about having a peaceful protest and surpassed the barricades and entered Central Delhi. Several policemen were atacked and severely injured amid the violence which also damaged several vehicles.
