Bengaluru: Karnataka’s government plans to have 100 engineering colleges adopted by corporate firms by the next academic year, announced IT Minister Priyank Kharge. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between education and industry, enhancing employment opportunities and future prospects for students.
According to Minister Kharge, the lack of adequate training is a significant reason why many students miss out on job opportunities. To address this, the government is creating a robust training framework and providing colleges with the necessary infrastructure. The initiative will see 100 engineering colleges adopted by 100 corporate firms or Global Capability Centers (GCCs).
The recently launched ‘Nipun Karnataka’ program aims to empower Karnataka’s youth by equipping them with world-class skills and training. In collaboration with companies like IBM, Intel, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Accenture, the program intends to train 1 lakh students, preparing them for the global job market.
At the Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS 2024), the Karnataka government signed several MoUs with DRDO, Finland, and Switzerland. These agreements aim to enhance the global reach of startups and foster innovation and technology.
A new AI (Artificial Intelligence) Center of Excellence will be established in collaboration with the IIT Alumni Center in Bengaluru. This center will provide space for startups, training in AI, and facilitate their entry into global markets.
BTS 2024 showcased 50 groundbreaking products spanning sectors like clean-tech, med-tech, agri-tech, AI, and blockchain. Most of these innovations were developed with the support of Karnataka government-backed K-Tech Innovation Hubs, Centers of Excellence, and Technology Business Incubators.
To recognize and promote innovation, the Karnataka government announced the launch of ‘Karnataka Startup Awards 2025’.
