The Central Government on Thursday stated about not keeping up to any restrictions adhering to the movement of medical oxygen and emphasized on the supply which cannot be limited for any specific state.
The order release stated, “No restrictions shall be imposed on oxygen manufacturers and suppliers to limit the oxygen supplies only to the hospitals of the state or Union territory in which they are located.”
In the first half of the day, several hospitals based in Delhi have appealed to the High Court for replenishment of oxygen supply with which they can continue to provide the required care and treatment for the affected Covid-19 patients.
The Ministry of Home Affairs passed the orders and also gave the instructions for no authority shall attach the oxygen – carrying vehicles moving via any district for supplies which are specific to any particular district.
Meanwhile the government has taken a call to ban the oxygen supply which would be utilised for industrial purposes till further orders are passed. It further stated, “Supply of oxygen for industrial purposes, except those exempted by the government, is prohibited with effect from 22nd April, 2021, and till further orders.”
The order emphasized on medical oxygen to be an essential public health commodity and any impediment in its supplies has the potential to critically affect the management of patients suffering from Covid-19 throughout the country.
The order was passed shortly post the Supreme Court issued a suo motto cognisance adhering to the ongoing Covid-19 condition which comprises of oxygen and essential drugs supply and urged the Centre to talk and put forth a national plan over management of Covid-19 in the country.
On Wednesday evening, the Centre announced about increase in the quota of oxygen supply for eight states, comprising of Delhi considering the surge in the Covid-19 cases.
