Indian Ambassador Abhay Kumar had a meeting with Issa Sanogo , Resident coordinator of United Nations to Madagascar, when they discussed about exchanged views on various subjects based on mutual interest which comprised of the drought situation in the south of the island nation.
In a tweet, the Indian Mission wrote about the meeting, “Ambassador Abhay Kumar had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Issa Sanogo, Resident coordinator of the United Nations Flag of United Nations to Madagascar. They exchanged views on various issues of interest including the drought situation in South Madagascar.”
Sanogo reaffirmed about their collaboration and joint effort with the diplomatic community to accompany the stability and emergence of Madagascar on Twitter. He wrote, “A great honor meeting his Excellency Ambassador @theabhayk of India today. Reaffirming that we will go places, working hand in hand with the diplomatic community to accompany the stability and emergence of Madagascar.”
From the last three years, the southern part of Madagascar has been experiencing drought. The drought has deteriorated the harvests and impacted the food availability for the people, which was further aggravated by Covid-19.
According to the reports of World Food Programme, presented in November, over the consecutive few years, South Madagascar has been having ‘hunger’ as a major issue, impacting 1.5 million people or nearly half the population of the region, where the families are feeding on insects to meet their hunger.
