A group of farmers representing Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) with their banner forcefully entered the Circuit House on Saturday, where workers of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) were conducting a function for honouring some “safai karamacharis” and commemorate the birthday of the party chief Ajay Singh Chautala.
A police force was assigned for the area as a precautionary measure and the doors of the Circuit House were barricaded to block the entry of the farmers, revealed the officials.
The function was to be presided over by Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) MLA Ram Karan Kala, but he was not present at the event.
The farmers were singing slogans against JJP MLAs and revealed they had not supported the opposition’s no-confidence motion against Haryana government, which was raised due to the subject on farmers protests.
After police interference, the farmers decided to disperse as the event got canceled.
Devinder Walia, Kurukshetra Station House Officer (SHO) stated the doors of the Circuit House were locked for about one and a half hour as the farmers were adamant to enter the building.
Alongside, another group of farmers raised a protest against Independent MLA Dharam Pal Gonder, who was supposed to attend the event in neighbouring Karnal district. The farmers also targeted the area near Karnal’s Nissing where an event in a cow shelter or ‘goushala’ was happening.
One of the protesters said, “We had gone to Gonder’s residence on March 9, where his wife was present, and we requested the family that the legislator should stand with the farmers and support the no-confidence motion. However, he chose not to support the farmers and voted against the motion.”
Another protester said they will not allow the leaders not supporting the farmers to have public meetings. He said, “We will not allow them to hold meetings in villages till the farm laws are repealed.”
