Farmers protesting blocks the Delhi-Meerut Expressway again

The movement of vehicles along the Delhi-Meerut Expressway took a standstill and was inhibited completely after 7.30 am on Tuesday morning as the farmers protesting continues over the last 27 days consecutively against the three key farm laws passed by the Centre along the Ghazipur-Ghaziabad (UP Gate) border, which has blocked all the carriageways.

Exactly at 7.37 am, the Delhi Traffic Police updated the public on Twitter regarding the closure of the carriageways for the Ghazipur-Ghaziabad border and the roads connecting it.

Alongside, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East region), Jasmeet Singh gave a confirmation regarding the farmers agitation and protests which has induced the blockade on the expressway.

The sudden road block on the expressway has invoked the police force from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh to deviate traffic to alternate borders, like the Anand Vihar, Bhopra, and Apsara. Considering the fact that the blockade may invoke traffic issues amid the morning peak hours, officials representing the Uttar Pradesh administration and the Delhi Police force are deliberating on resuming a minimum of one carriageway with the protesting farmers.

The farmers, amid their protests at the UP Gate border have completely taken over the carriageway of the expressway and also the service roads reaching Delhi from Ghaziabad, ever since they began their protests in November.

The farmers have blocked the expressway for the second consecutive time from Monday afternoon who are protesting against the action of blocking some farmers from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand from reaching Delhi borders to merge with the other farmers in the protest. The blockade which lasted for around an hour or more was cleared after the police assured the farmers that no farmers will be blocked from reaching the Delhi borders.

Thousands of farmers have been protesting from November 26 along the Singhu and Tikri borders, which are closed, however, one chilla, that is the Delhi-Noida road link, is open from vehicles commuting from Noida to Delhi. But, the motorists travelling to Noida are being digressed to other routes like the DND, Kalindi Kunj, New Ashok Nagar, Dallupura and Kondli.
