A gas pipeline blast lead to a massive explosion around a mosque in Bangladesh which has taken the lives of atleast 13 people and caused severe injuries to a minimum of 30 people on Saturday. According to the fire service officials, the explosion was caused by a leakage from the pipeline that happened on Friday. The explosion happened near a mosque in Narayanganj district, outside Dhaka.
The affected worshippers were rushed to Dhaka’s state run specialized burn and plastic-surgery hospital. Most of the people suffered from severe burns. Thirteen people, which includes a seven year old child succumbed to death.
A senior fire official stated that, “We primarily suspect that gas leaked from the pipeline and accumulated inside the mosque since the windows were shut. When the air conditioners were turned on, due to the sparks the gas could have exploded.”
He further said that all the six air conditioners in the mosque exploded.
