Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, on Monday declared a range of programmes and a grant of USD 25 million for the non profits and social enterprises working towards the empowerment of women and girls.
Sundar Pichai said, “We are today launching a global http://Google.org Impact Challenge for women and girls.We will provide USD 25 million in grants to non-profits and social enterprises doing important work to help women address systemic barriers, economic equality and more.”
This new philanthropic initiative was launched on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Pichi said Google.org — the philanthropic wing intends to address the systemic barriers and inequalities for letting the women have access to economic equality, the chance to have her own financial independence and take up the pursuit of being an entrepreneur.
He added, “We are announcing a new commitment to allow 1 million women in the rural villages to become entrepreneurs, through business tutorials, tools and mentorship.”
Jacqueline Fuller, President, Google.org said, “Whatever these teams need, we are going to be alongside them and help them carry out their vision.”
The company mentioned that the applications will be accepted worldwide till the deadline of April 9. It was also declared that an additional USD 1 million will be invested for providing assistance to the underserved women of India.
