Government: “India’s GDP is 11 times that of Bangladesh in 2019” over IMF’s projection

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) released a report on Wednesday stating the projection that India’s per capita gross domestic product in 2020 will contract down below Bangladesh in 2020 due to the impact of the lockdown on the economy.

The IMF further reported India’s per capita GDP dropping to $1,877 in 2020 with a decline of 10.3 per cent and when comparing with Bangladesh, the figures increased by 4 % to $1,888. The opposition parties lashed out at the government over IMF’s projection, to which the Government said the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of India was 11 times that of Bangladesh in 2019.

Considering the IMF projections, acquainted people have iterated that the per capita GDP has elevated from Rs 83,091 in the year 2014 – 15 to Rs. 1,08,620 in the year 2019-20, thereby having an increase of 30.7 per cent, as per the information given by news agency PTI.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shared the IMF projections details, lashing out at Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) led Government with a tinge of mockery reflecting their achivement over the past 6 years. He tweeted, “Solid achievement of 6 years of BJP’s hate-filled cultural nationalism: Bangladesh set to overtake India.”

Abhishek Baneerjee, senior leader of Trinamool Congress on Wednesday stated that the economy of the country has gone down to “tatters”, and termed IMF projections as “our colossal downfall” inclining to the “5 trillion dream” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the forthcoming estimation of IMF, India will be reviving the economic growth with an impressive 8.8 per cent rate in 2021, surpassing China’s growth rate of 8.2 percent, in the “World Economic Outlook” report.
