GPCC chief, Girish Chodankar resigns from Congress over poor performance in Zilla Panchayat polls

Girish Chodankar, President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has submitted a resignation, and accounts for the absolute responsibility of poor performance of the Congress party in the latest Zilla Panchayat poll, as confirmed by the Vice President, Congress party, Sankalp Amonkar on Friday.

Amonkar, in conversation with ANI, revealed that Chodankar has resigned from the post by presenting it to interim chief of Congress party, Sonia Gandhi and state-in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao and was further anticipating a response from the Delhi High Command.

Chodankar said in a statement, “Taking full responsibility for the poll results, I have tendered my resignation from the post of GPCC chief.”

It was in April 2018  when Girish Chodankar was appointed as the GPCC chief, replacing former member of Parliament, Shantaram Naik.

In the recently conducted Zilla Panchayat elections in Goa, the Congress won over only four seats, whereas the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party, emerged victorious with an impeccable performance by winning 32 out of the total 48 seats. The party did win one seat without any opposition. (With Agency inputs)
