Heavy rainfall inflicts havoc in Karnataka, CM Yediyurappa holds a review meeting

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa held a review meeting to discuss the havoc invoked by the torrential rain on Thursday with the officials representing the affected districts of Karnataka.

The review meeting which was held virtually was attended by district collectors, Superintendent of Police and Chief Executive Officers of districts that have been impacted by the floods.

The state is experiencing a critical situation with the heavy rains submerging the low-lying areas and water released from the major dams.

Yediyurappa stated the Centre was intimidated about the severe circumstances of Karnataka. He said, “The Centre is aware of the prevailing situation. I have just now spoken to the (Union) Home Minister who has assured us of every assistance.”

R Ashok to address PM to announce Karnataka floods a calamity

Revenue Minister, R Ashok will be writing to the Centre urging it to announce the flood affected regions of Kalayana Karnataka and other parts a national calamity. After investigating the affected regions, he told the reporters that unprecedented rainfall has caused extensive damage to the crops and infrastructure in the district (Kalaburagi).

North Karnataka is being hit for the third time by torrential downpour in a period of three months.
