I Never Aspired to Become an MLA or MP: Nikhil Kumaraswamy

Hassan: “I have never aspired to become an MLA or MP. If I had, I wouldn’t have entered the film industry and would have directly joined politics,” said Nikhil Kumaraswamy, JDS Youth Wing President.

Speaking at the birthday celebration of former minister A. Manju and the Kannada Rajyotsava event held in Arkalgud, Hassan district, he said, “The people of Hassan have empowered a simple farmer’s son like Deve Gowda to make history by hoisting the flag at the Red Fort. Your love and respect for our family is immeasurable, and we are forever indebted to you. Our family and the party will always stand with you.”

Reflecting on his journey, he said, “Winning and losing elections is normal. Although I come from a political background, I accepted challenges in the film industry. My father introduced me to cinema with Jaguar, and I have acted in several films. However, I realized my responsibilities in public life, so I completely devoted myself to serving the people.”

Nikhil highlighted the contributions of his grandfather, Deve Gowda, saying, “Even at the age of 92, Deve Gowda stands firm in the Rajya Sabha, fighting for the protection of our land, water, and language. He is my inspiration, and I am aware of the responsibilities I hold.”

He acknowledged his defeat in the recent by-election but stated, “Losing an election does not deter me. I am 36 years old, and my biggest challenge ahead is to strengthen the Janata Dal (Secular) and secure its future. Becoming an MLA or MP is not my priority; ensuring the survival of a regional party that represents the identity and pride of Kannadigas is my mission.”

He also expressed gratitude to party workers and supporters, saying, “In times of crisis, I have stood as a disciplined soldier of the party, responding to the sentiments of our workers. With your blessings, I will continue my efforts, touring the state and fighting for the party’s vision. I am committed to this cause till my last breath.”

Concluding his speech, Nikhil reassured, “I am here to fight with sincerity as a young leader. Together, we will work for the betterment of the party and the people.”
