Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had called up Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for the Covid19 vaccine, after which India is processing an approval to supply 5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine as an aid to Canada in February.
The Modi Government had earlier taken the call to supply Covid-19 vaccines for the military and army personnel of Nepal. Bhutan, Bangladesh, and various other neighbouring countries. The process of supplying by Army to Army has begun and the vaccine will be distributed to friendly countries with a mix of Covaxin and Covishield.
The supply of Covid-19 vaccines developed by AstraZeneca to Canada was in-process of being tied up, and the request sent from Ottawa was given an approval last week. Canada had asked for 5 million doses with the request placed on February 5, according to the people who are aware of the development.
On February 10 as Trudeau called Modi, the supply of the Covid-19 vaccines was given a green signal from India’s side. Though vaccine supply was discussed between them, Trudeau also assured safety and security of the Indian diplomats and diaspora who are projected as a target by the separatists elements from Toronto and Vancouver.
On Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs also gave an approval for the supply of Covid-19 vaccine to the army of friendly countries, where Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal are on the priority list.
