India will receive Sputnik V vaccine doses by May 1: RDIF

The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) will be delivering the Sputnik V vaccine to India as India is battling the second wave of Covid-19 revealed RDIF CEO Kirill Dmitrev on Monday.
While addressing an interview with CNN on Monday, Dmitrev revealed the first doses will arrive in India as scheduled for May 1. He further said India would be one of the key producers for the Russian Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V.
Alongside, Indian doctors are anticipating the access for Sputnik V at the earliest, as said by Senior Director, Centre for Chest and Respiratory Diseases at Delhi’s Super Speciality Hospital, Dr Sandeep Nayar to TASS news agency on Tuesday.
TASS reported citing Dr Sandeep Nayar, “The Sputnik vaccine has a very good study and very good backup, so I am hoping that we have that vaccine too as early as possible.”
Currently, India is using two vaccines against Covid-19 which comprises of indigenously developed Covaxin by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech and Covishield, which is manufactured by Pune based Serum Institute of India and developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca for the vaccination drive in the country.
Sputnik V, the Covid-19 vaccine developed in Russia, was the first vaccine registered in the world against Covid-19 and was given approval by 60 countries around the world for emergency use. Sputnik V has depicted an efficacy of 91.6 per cent based on the interim analysis from the trials released in the renowned journal The Lancet.
