Amid the largest vaccination drive in the world, India has administered around 157 million Covid-19 doses as of the cumulative count on Sunday. With the third phase of vaccination drive for the people age group 18-49, on Day 2, over 86,000 beneficiaries in this age group have been vaccinated. Further on, the Centre has turned down the reports of not ordering fresh stocks of vaccines since March 2021.
Overall, a count of 156,816,031 vaccine doses have been administered in the country as of 7 a on Sunday. From which, 9,428,490 healthcare workers have received the first dose and around 6,265,397 have been given the second dose also. From the overall count, 12,757,529 frontline workers have received the first dose and 6,922,093 have got their second dose as well.
For the age group of 45 – 59 years, nearly 53,280,976 have been administered with the first dose while other 4,008,078 have got the second dose also. For the above 60 years category, a count of 52,618,135 people have got the first dose and 11,449,310 have got the second dose.
On Sunday morning, around 1,648,192 vaccine doses were administered, from which 989,700 were given the first dose along with 658,492 beneficiaries received the second dose as well and the age group of 18-44 saw 86,023 people vaccinated.
In a statement, the Union Health Ministry said, “There have been some media reports alleging that the Centre has not placed any fresh order for Covid-19 vaccines. The news reports suggest that the last order placed with the two vaccine makers (100 million doses with SII and 20 million doses with Bharat Biotech) was in March 2021. These media reports are completely incorrect, and are not based on facts.”
