Karnataka Govt establishes commission to inquire deaths related to Covid-19 patients at Chamarajanagar district hospital

The Government of Karnataka has deployed a commission of inquiry which comprises of retired judge of High Court Justice B A Patil, to conduct the detailed investigation pertaining to the deaths of Covid-19 patients which was invoked by oxygen shortage at District Hospital based in Chamarajanagar on Monday.
According to a document released from the Karnataka Government secretariat which reveals the terms of reference to the commission will be “to inquire into the circumstances and events leading to the deaths of COVID-19 patients in District Hospital, Chamarajanagar on May 3, reportedly due to scarcity of oxygen and any further similar incidents, which are entrusted to the Commission of Inquiry by the government”.
The document stated that the report for the same has to be presented within the given time frame of one month.
The Commission can implement all the powers following the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952 and the Code of Procedure (CrPc) to conduct their inquiries. The office for the said commission will be based in Mysuru. Currently, 24 patients had died due to lack of oxygen supply at the government hospital based in Chamrajanagar district in Karnataka. An emergency meeting was called by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Tuesday after the incident. Although, the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has overwhelmed the medical infrastructure of the country with severe shortage of oxygen supply.
