Karnataka lockdown unlock in 5 phases

Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka indicated possibility of beginning the lockdown unlocking process starting from next week and iterated that Karnataka government is deliberating on relaxing the curb following four to five different phases.

The government is considering on extension of current shopping hours till 12 noon. Apart from that, the locals will be given the permit to visit the parks for exercising.

While addressing the reporters during the inauguration event of a workshop held by BBMP for paediatricians at the Nimhans Convention Centre, R Ashoka said, “The government is considering unlock in 4 to 5 phases keeping in mind the daily caseload. But everything will not be thrown open at one go as it may further shoot up the Covid caseload. CM Yediyurappa will decide on this graded and phased unlock process.”

While speaking on Covid-19 figures of Bengaluru, he said, “Bengaluru is currently reporting about 2,000 cases. If we want to have a normal life, the caseload must come down to 500 per day. We will also be analysing what will be the positivity rate once unlock process sets in.”

When inquired about the relaxations deliberated by Karnataka government, R Ashoka responded, “Initially we are thinking of extending the existing shopping hours which is currently from 6:00 am to 10:00 am. This may be extended up to 12 noon. Similarly, people may be allowed to visit parks for the morning, evening walk or jogging.”

The minister confirmed that only the existing operational industries will continue to function and no new industries will be permitted to resume operations.

The state of Karnataka had earlier extended the lockdown for 7 more days till June 14, following the recommendations of the state’s technical advisory committee.
