Karnataka reservation requirements: Government will take the required steps within the ambit of law, says Yediyurappa

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday revealed that government will be taking the required steps within the structure of law and Constitution for responding to the demands urged by the various communities in the state for reservation.

While answering the questions addressed by reporters, Yediyurappa said, “We will put in honest efforts to do whatever is possible within the ambit of the Constitution and law. What has been done in other states in the country, I can do it here.”

The Chief Minister iterated about the matter will be put for further discussion post consultation with legal experts which includes the Advocate General and various renowned people, with which the government will take all the necessary steps.

Strong demands have been put forth for updating the reservation for the community like Panchamasali Lingayat, Kuruba, and Valmiki communities. The Panchamasali sect are asking for Category 2A status, Kurubas demanding for the tag of Scheduled Tribe. The Valmiki community has been appealing for increase in reservation from 3 per cent to 7.5 per cent.

Yediyurappa, lately, issued the order for the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes  to formulate a report which comprises of Panchamasali sub-sect under Category 2A. The Kurubas had planned a padayatra, headed by Kaginele Kanakaguru Peeta  seer Niranjanandapuri Swami, starting from Kaginele to Bengaluru and had proposed for a mammoth rally on Sunday urging for ST tag, who come under OBCs. Swami passed a warning about going for an indefinite fast if the reservation hike is not declared within a month.
