The Mumbai Chennai National Highway and NICE road had a massive traffic jam on Sunday with the arising protests of thousands of supporters from the Kuruba Community marched towards the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Nelamangala, on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

With the increased traffic, the city police presented various other routes for Bengaluru and Kempegowda International Airport from the areas of Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Davanagere, and Shivamogga.

With the supporters parking their vehicles along the way, the highway was blocked stretching several kilometres, and the BIEC junction was just the same, with trucks lined-up.

The traffic was a in control until afternoon with alternative routes proposed, but the sudden rush of people after leaving the venue, invoked the traffic out of hand. The condition was critical for the city ambulances travelling on the highway.

To support the rally, the ministers had issued an appeal to the highway toll collection agencies for letting go the rally bound vehicles, which resulted in three separate lanes at the toll plaza.

A traffic police on duty revealed the reason about the sudden traffic jam was inappropriate parking of vehicles for all the people ho were a part of the rally.

A senior traffic police officer said, “The designated parking slots were brimming with vehicles by noon and there was hardly any place for parking.”

He further added, “Due to this, those who had come on two-wheelers, cars and private buses had parked their vehicles all along the service road from Madanayakanahalli to Nagasandra toll.”
