The jury at the Swedish Academy declared the winner of the Nobel Prize Literature for the year 2020 as American poet Louise Glück on Thursday.

The Academy has honored Glück “for her unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal”.

The Swedish Academy crowned the 2020 Nobel Literature Prize Laureate after a long period of emerging scandals and wildcard picks. In 2018, the award was delayed due to the sex allegations indicated at the Swedish Academy, who makes the final call on winners and triggered a mass exodus of members.

Two laureates were named by the Academy last year, with the 2018 prize given to Olga Tokarczuk from Poland and the 2019 award was received by Peter Handke from Austria.

About Louise Glück: Louise Glück debuted in 1968 with ‘Firstborn’ and then eventually became very popular and acclaimed poet in the arena of American contemporary literature. Her work includes published 12 collections of poetry and few volumes of essays on poetry.
