Science and Technology minister Michael Lobo announced on Wednesday about him installing a life-size statue of footballer Diego Maradona, with the objective of motivating the youth of Goa who are into football. The statue will be instituted in the coastal belt of North district. The Argentine soccer player died of a cardiac arrest on Wednesday.
Lobi, representing Calangute constituency, revealed to ANI agency, “I, not the Goa government, will install the statue of Diego Maradona in the coastal belt of North district to inspire Goan youth.”
Meantime, chief minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant took to Twitter to express his condolences over passing away of Diego Maradona. He tweeted on Wednesday, “With a heavy heart, I sympathize with the football community. Diego Maradona, the football icon will be remembered forever. #Maradona has inspired many football lovers of Goa and has encouraged football culture in the state.”
Earlier, in November, Maradona was hospitalized a few days after celebrating his 60th birthday, according to Goal.com. He complained of persistent exhaustion. After medical examination, the doctors revealed the tests at the La Plata Clinic indicated a blood clot in his brain, which doctors iterated was operated successfully. According to Goal.com, the football legend was discharged from hospital, but in the wee hours of Wednesday, Maradona suffered cardiac arrest which the paramedics failed to revive.
