The members of the Kuruba community had organized a massive protest by marching a rally in the city of Bengaluru on Sunday putting forth their demand of getting a Scheduled Tribes (ST) tag. Their march was initiated from Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), right from the outskirts of Bengaluru in the Tumakaru region, which was attended by thousands of people.

Amid the rally, a number of political leaders were present like R Shankar, MTB Nagaraju, KS Eshwarappa, AH Vishwanath, BandeppaKashempur and seers such as Niranjanandapuri Swami of KagineleGurupeetha, Eshwarananda Swami along with the Kuruba ST Horata Samiti president K Virupakshappa.

However, former chief minister Siddaramaiah was not a part of the rally, which raised a question about his opinion on the protest. The political leaders along with the seers demanded that Kurubas to be included in the ST category.  Prior to the rally, a padayatra was organized from Kaginele to Bengaluru, which extends to about 340 km starting from January 15 to February 4.

The protesting mob had disturbed the traffic on the national highway route from Mumbai to Chennai and the traffic police iterated that the erratic parking of the vehicles by the protesters had caused the block. Alongside, the members from the Vokkaliga community and the Panchamasali community have also been demanding the reservation from the state government.
