The government declared on Tuesday that over 14 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered throughout the country with the records updated till 1 pm for the Day-2 of the second phase of the largest vaccination drive in the world. The statement said 208,791 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered to the target population of senior citizens and above 45 age group with comorbidities.
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said, “More than 1.48 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered till 1pm today. Out of this, 2.08 lakh doses have been given to people who are 45 years to 59 years of age with comorbidities and people above 60 years of age,” as quoted by news agency ANI.
The remnant doses have been utilised for the vaccination of healthcare workers (HCW) and front line workers (FLW).
At a usual press meet, Bhushan confirmed that 6,704,856 healthcare workers have been administered the first dose of Covid-19 and a count of 2,598,192 of them have been given the second dose. Around 5,343,219 doses have been inoculated for the frontline workers, and the second dose is yet to begin for them, as per the current data from the Union Health Ministry.
Bhushan stated, “We have nine states and UTs [Union territories] where either 100 per cent of the first dose to registered healthcare workers or more than 90 per cent has been given.” On one side, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu have inoculated the first dose for 100 per cent of the registered HCWs, alongside Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Lakshadweep have finished with over 90 per cent of the registered ones.
On Monday, India entered the second vaccination phase and 5 million people have registered on the Co-WIN platform in 2 days.
