More than 18,000 oxygen concentrators, 770,000 vials of Remdesivir as aid from other countries sent to states: Centre

The total count of 18,040 oxygen concentrators along with 19,085 oxygen cylinders and around 770,000 Remdesivir vials which were received as medical aid from several countries have been directed to the States or Union territories directly from April 27 to May 28 during the worsening health infrastructure of the states in the second wave of Covid-19, according to the statement by Union Health Ministry on Saturday.

All the Covid-19 relief as medical supplies and equipment received from countries from April 27 has been dispatched to the states and UTs promptly, the statement said.

The major consignments were received on May 26 and May 28, sent by several countries like Turkey, Indian Business Association (Taiwan), Roche (Switzerland) and Eli Lily which comprises of 20 oxygen concentrators, five oxygen concentrator plants, 680 oxygen cylinders, 50,000 tocilizumab, 20,000 Baricitinib, 50 ventilators, Bi-PAP and CPAP.

The ministry said this also comprises of 680 oxygen cylinders sent from Turkey, which have some compliance problems, so restrained at the warehouse.

The Union Health Ministry has created a special cell for coordination of the receipt and allocation of foreign Covid-19 relief packages as international cooperation in the form of grants, aid and donations, which started functioning from April 26. The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the same has been implemented by Health Ministry which was initiated from May 2.
