More than 3.15 crore vaccine doses administered in India: Govt

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) declared on Monday about over 3.15 crore doses of vaccine administered in India against the Covid-19 disease.

On Monday evening, the health ministry tweeted, “India crosses the milestone of 3.15 crore Covid-19 vaccinations,” which was just hours prior to India completing two months of its vaccination drive against the Covid-19 pandemic. On January 16, India started the immunization drive against Covid-19 with the phase 1 focusing on healthcare workers.

Over 7.3 million healthcare workers have been administered the first dose of the vaccine and as many as 4.3 million have been given the second dose till Monday morning, as per the data given by the health ministry. For the frontline workers, the count is 7.3 million for the first dose and 1.1 million dose for the second dose.

The second phase of the vaccination drive began on March 1, where the target was the elderly people with age above 60 years and people above 45 with comorbidities. Over 8.2 million people above 60 years have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and around 1.4 million people with co-morbidities have been the beneficiaries for the first dose, as per the health ministry data.

As per the provisional report of the Health Ministry, 2.99 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered in 5.13 lakh sessions.
