Night curfew in Maharashtra, weekend lockdown imposed to contain COVID-19 spike

The state of Maharashtra will be having a night curfew from 8 pm to 7 am starting from Monday along with weekend lockdown to be enforced Friday onwards for controlling the spike in the COVID-19 cases throughout the state, according to Minority Welfare Minister Nawab Malik’s statement released on Sunday.

The decision was taken post Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had a discussion in the review meeting with the cabinet ministers about the strict measures to be taken to contain the virus. The chief minister reiterated that lockdown cannot be ruled out if the COVID-19 protocols are failed to be followed.

On Saturday, Maharashtra observed a jump of around 50,000 cases, which becomes the highest one-day spike after the beginning of the pandemic. The following guidelines have been issued which will be implemented from Monday and will be followed till April 30:

–  Night curfew will be implemented from 8 pm till 7 am amid which only essential services will be permitted.

– Section 144 will be followed with the prohibitory measures during the day.

– There will be a complete lockdown on weekends from Friday 8 pm to Monday 7 am.

– Theatres and multiplexes will be closed, but the film and television shootings can continue provided there is no crowding, and the parks and the playgrounds will be closed.

– The shopping malls, bars, restaurants and small shops will be allowed to be open but only for take-aways and parcels.

– No restrictions for travel in trains, buses, taxi and autos, but will be operated adhering to the 50 per cent capacity.

– The Government offices will be allowed to be operational following the 50 per cent capacity, whereas the private offices can have work from home for their employees, but essential services which is the bank and the power supply offices will be operational.

– Following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the industries and production sector along with the vegetable markets will be functional and the construction site will be permitted for the workers provided with the facility of accommodation.
