No deaths for those infected after Covid-19 vaccination: AIIMS study

The All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), New Delhi had initiated a study on the people who were found to be infected with Covid-19 after vaccination, and it was reported that there was no incidence of any fatalities.

The time period when the study was conducted was in the months of April-May, exactly when the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic was at its peak. As many as 63 people (41 male, 22 female) were involved in the study, where 10 of them were jabbed with Covishield and 53 of them received Covaxin. Of 63 of them, 36 had completed the vaccination course, and 27 received a single dose of either of the vaccine. The age group of the participants was from 21 – 92 without any current comorbidities.

The study report stated, “Viral load at the time of diagnosis was high in all the patients irrespective of vaccination status or type of vaccine received and the initial course of disease with high-grade non-remitting fever lasted for five to seven days in the vaccinated group, similar to the clinical presentation in unvaccinated patients.”

The study revealed in any instance of breakthrough infection, in instances where someone is infected with Covid-19 after being partially or completely vaccinated, the emerging concern is due to the Covid-variants of B.1.617.2 and B.1.1.7.

The report added, “While antibody levels for a subset of patients were available, they became infected nevertheless and presented to the emergency just like other patients, putting in doubt the protection offered and or clinical relevance of total immunoglobulin G (IgG) as a surrogate of COVID-19 immunity.”
